Therapy with Stanly

I provide individual online psychotherapy to adults in California through Octave, a secure and streamlined teletherapy platform that manages everything related to insurance, making things easier for you and me. I am in-network with:

  • Aetna

  • Anthem Blue Cross of California

  • Blue Shield of California

  • Cigna/Evernorth

  • Healthnet/MHN.

Overview of Therapy Process

  • If you are interested in working with me, you can either contact me or contact Octave (they can accurately verify your insurance). Our initial communication will be to discuss your current interest in therapy, what you’re experiencing, how it’s impacting you, and what support you’re seeking.

We will also need to confirm availability and compatibility of schedules and insurance before we schedule our initial intake assessment.

    • Constant worrying about everything

    • Stress & burnout

    • Feeling down, stuck, lost, disconnected

    • Perfectionism, shame, self-hatred

    • Anger, irritability, agitation

    • Adjustment/transition issues (e.g., adulthood, school, parenthood, retirement, grief & loss)

    • Burnout related to helping professions or caregiving

    • Problematic control/coping behaviors (substances, technology)

    • Asian-American issues and support

    • LGBTQ+ issues and support

    • Male issues and support

    • Developing deeper insights and awareness

  • Octave will help you set up your account and schedule our initial intake assessment. Our first appointment will be focused on getting to know each other, orienting to the therapy process, gathering essential details/history, and setting general therapy goals.

  • The frequency of therapy will correspond with your progress and need for support. I usually start with meeting every 1–2 weeks to build rapport, awareness, and early momentum.

When things become more manageable, we will gradually meet less to encourage you to maintain progress on your own (i.e., relying less on our meetings and more on regular practice and application in your personal life).

  • As things improve, there often becomes less to resolve or process. Even when things are going well, continuing sessions at a reduced frequency can provide ongoing support and reinforcement.

At this phase, the focus of therapy shifts toward maintaining progress, troubleshooting “blindspots” when necessary—a “mental health tune-up or check-in” occurring every 1–3+ months.

  • Therapy, like life, is an on-going process. Whether things become more manageable or therapy goals have been met, we will discuss and prepare for when to pause therapy. It is common to return when new issues, stressors, or “blindspots” exceed our ability to manage or cope. The goal is not to always be or never be in therapy: it is there for you when you, your support, and your resources and coping skills are not enough.

  • Please provide 24-hour notice of appointment cancellation. Cancellations made in less than 24 hours prior to the appointment time or missing an appointment without notice of cancellation will incur a late cancellation fee of $100.

You can reschedule by messaging/calling me or contacting Octave.

  • Under Section 2799B-6 of the Public Health Service Act, health care providers and health care facilities are required to provide a good faith estimate of expected charges for items and services to individuals who are not enrolled in a plan or coverage or a Federal health care program, or not seeking to file a claim with their plan or coverage both orally and in writing, upon request or at the time of scheduling health care items and services. To request a good faith estimate, submit an email request to Stanly Tran, LCSW at therapy@stanlytran.com. A good faith estimate will be provided within 3 business days upon request. To learn more about your right to a good faith estimate, click here or call (800) 985-3059.

Fees are informed by market competition and business overhead expenses (subject to change; you will be notified a month in advance of fee adjustments). Octave charges $200 for out of pocket, uninsured services (I do not accept private-pay/cash for services outside of Octave).
